The Garjiya Tourist zone was inaugurated in November 2020 to accomodate the increasing number of tourists and decrease the load on existing zones. Despite being an alternate zone, it too offers a wide diversity in species of birds and animals and gives the experience of picturesque forest.
Garjiya is where the jungle meets the sacred. It is named after the Garjiya Devi Temple, which sits perched on a massive rock in the Kosi River just outside. While the crowds are busy fighting for permits elsewhere, Garjiya waits patiently just 5 to 9 kilometers from Ramnagar. It is the “buffer that acts like a core,” offering a raw, unpolished beauty that doesn’t need to herald.
It’s the closest you can get to the wild while staying near the city, with the entry gate at Ringora or Aamdanda.
Despite being a newer addition (opened around 2020), it is surprisingly tiger-rich.
Talking about its landscape, it’s a rugged mix of dense Sal forests, hilly ridges, and the Garjiya Chaur (grasslands). Beyond the cats, it is a stronghold for sloth bears, elephants, and over 550 species of birds that thrive near the riverine belts.
The Garjiya Tourist Zone is a hidden gem in Jim Corbett National Park, offering a perfect blend of adventure, tranquility, and natural beauty. Its tiger-rich landscape, combined with lush greenery and serene ambiance, makes it a must-visit destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.
