This is the most popular safari zone. It has the biggest area among all the zones and is widely known for its scenic display of grasslands, Ramganga reservoir and absolute chances of tiger-sighting.
To reach the Dhikala Forest Rest House, you enter through the Dhangarhi Gate (about 18 km from Ramnagar) and then drive another 32 km through dense, tiger-filled jungle just to reach the campus.
Staying at the Dhikala Forest Rest House (built over a hundred years ago) is a bucket-list item. Imagine hearing the roar of a tiger or the alarm call of a deer while you sip tea on your veranda. The Dhikala Chaur (grassland) is one of the largest grasslands in Asia. It’s a theater of nature—you might see a herd of 50 elephants grazing on one side, water flowing on the other side of the Ramganga reservoir and a tiger stalking prey on the other.
The Ramganga river is the lifeline here. You’ll see crocodiles and Gharials sunbathing on the banks, and it’s the best place to spot the rare Kalij Pheasant or Fish Eagles.
Dhikala is Jim Corbett’s largest and most popular zone, combining open grasslands with the Ramganga reservoir – a combination that gives it some of the strongest tiger-sighting chances in the entire park.
Dhikala safaris run 6:00 AM-11:50 AM and 12:00 PM-6:00 PM. Access is via the Dhangarhi Gate (about 18 km from Ramnagar), followed by a further 32 km drive into the zone.
Canter Safaris start from Rs 2,500 per person (Rs 4,500 for foreign nationals) and are the only way to visit Dhikala on a day trip – private jeep safaris here require an overnight stay booking in one of the forest lodges, and advance booking is essential.

Not on a day trip – day visitors must use the Canter Safari (a 16-seater open bus). A private jeep safari is only possible if you book an overnight stay in one of Dhikala’s forest lodges.
